Chaloner has partnered with a leading strategic communications firm on their search for an Account Supervisor to support their labor, real estate, and philanthropy practices on the West Coast. The position is based in Los Angeles and will help grow the LA office.

The ideal candidate for this role can strategize with clients, manage projects and staff, write and edit quickly and well, and enjoys working directly with reporters. The position is ideal for candidates with four to five years of experience in strategic communications, media relations, journalism, or related fields in California. Spanish fluency is required.

This position adds to the talented LA-based team dedicated to shaping conversations around public policy, health care, the environment, urban development, the economy, and arts and culture. From driving progressive advocacy debates to building cities of the future, our client works on some of the most high-profile issues of our time.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Working with team leadership to advance the communications strategy for multiple high-profile client accounts
  • Developing and managing relationships with key reporters
  • Writing and editing persuasive external and internal documents such as press releases, op-eds, fact sheets, talking points, editorial board memos, and communications plans
  • Manage projects and junior staff

Applicants should possess:

  • Strong project and client management skills in a PR and/or media environment
  • Strong news sense and familiarity with California and West Coast media, including national reporters based here
  • Demonstrated relationships with reporters at top-tier outlets
  • Experience managing media relations, both rapid response and long lead
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with varying levels of staff, clients and the media
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments at once, work quickly and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with and interest in local, state, and national political frameworks
  • Written and spoken fluency in Spanish
  • Experience managing staff
  • A sense of humor!

Additional skills that are not required but will help you stand out as a candidate:

  • Experience writing for the web (website copy, social media posts, articles, etc.);
  • Experience with the basic concepts of digital marketing, including organic and paid social media strategies;
  • Written and spoken fluency in Spanish.
