Chaloner has partnered with the We Mean Business coalition on their search for a Communications Manager to join their thriving team. The candidate’s primary focus will be delivering the We Mean Business coalition’s communications strategy in the US.

The successful candidate will have strong existing media relationships in the US, primarily at the national level with some international relationships advantageous. They will think creatively and be well-versed in the opportunities that both digital and the shifting traditional media landscape open up to communicators. With a knack for sharp copy writing and a strategic approach, they will be skilled at building powerful messaging with a clear focus on target audiences.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work directly with US-based coalition partners and committed companies to deliver key communications objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with We Mean Business policy and corporate engagement teams.
  • Shape key messages specifically for US audiences and develop creative strategies to land them.
  • Support the delivery of corporate engagement campaigns in high-emitting sectors.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists in the US.
  • Track against agreed metrics and evolve strategy based on a clear understanding of what works.
  • Manage relationships with We Mean Business agencies where appropriate.
  • Keep up to date with climate and business issues.

Experience

  • Bachelors degree (Preferably in marketing, journalism, communications or public relations) or relevant experience.
  • 7 - 10 years experience working in the field of media and communications.
  • You have worked with varied stakeholders on high level media projects.
  • You have led or helped a team translate a vision and goals into a media strategy.
  • You are comfortable managing high-level stakeholders and have managed media production around high-level events.
  • Experience in project management and/or management of an in-house and outsourced team.
  • Experience working remotely.

  • Synthesis - you can listen to disparate needs and find synergy. Organization - you are extremely organized and can systematize processes.
  • Planning - you are comfortable creating short and long term plans and can keep people on track to deliver to it.
  • Analytics - experience with analytics processes and platforms
  • Project management and collaboration tools - you’re comfortable working with cloud based project management and collaboration tools
  • Self starter - able to work without significant supervision--when you and your team decide on a project plan, you go for it and come back if/when you have questions.
  • Clear communicator – Makes sure everyone has received the same and correct message when you have relayed information.
  • Solid collaborator - who sees value in others’ opinions.
  • Agile and flexible - Embraces an ethos of testing, refining, and doing it all over again.
