Chaloner has partnered with MacDougall Biomedical Communications, Inc. on their search for a Director, Account Team to be based out of their Wellesley, MA headquarters.


The candidate must have previous experience in biotech or life sciences and should have a strong background in communicating scientific and clinical information to various audiences. This candidate must have a passion for learning and communicating about science, technology and innovation to drive successful investment and growth opportunities. A candidate with a background in life science financing activities is a strong plus. Ability to lead clients and staff and experience developing successful strategic communications programs are critical to this role. The candidate must be comfortable adapting content for both technically sophisticated and lay audiences. This position will develop communication strategies that will elevate the visibility of clients among industry, clinical, academic/scientific, financial and general public audiences.


  • Provide senior counsel and strategy to account teams to develop and execute effective communication strategies that build/reinforce our client’s brand positioning
  • Develop and maintain media and financial relationships that will result in positive visibility opportunities for clients
  • Provide ongoing guidance to clients in managing the attitudes, beliefs, and perceptions of key audiences
  • Build visibility for MacDougall’s clients among scientific/academic and medical KOLs
  • Act as an internal resource to colleagues regarding scientific and medical communications strategies
  • Develop communications support which includes story development, writing, and placement as well as oversight of media-related activities (e.g., press releases, Op-Eds, bylined articles, editorial boards, etc.)
  • Participating in the ongoing maintenance of the firm’s "relational database" to help build external partnerships and strategic alliances with key decision makers
  • Design and implement crisis communications planning programs and actively participate in the counsel of client companies undergoing crisis situations including: trial failures, stock price fluctuations, activist investor campaigns, financing challenges, etc.
  • Partner with the MacDougall Creative Services department and generate new client business that reflects our integrated approach to communications
  • Participate in the firm’s business development initiatives by contributing to lead generation and leading new business pitches


  • Bachelor’s degree required; Major or post-graduate studies in a scientific or communications-related discipline a plus
  • 8 or more years of overall strategic communications, media relations, scientific/medical communications, financial communications or public affairs experience
  • Proven experience providing exemplary client service and strategic counsel to c-level staff
  • Management experience supervising staff and interfacing with cross-functional teams with demonstrated focus on collaboration and team-building management skills
  • Demonstrated use of excellent written and oral communications skills
  • History of successful campaigns, where positive influence and desired results have been achieved
