Chaloner has partnered with Gilead Sciences, Inc. on their search for a Director, Digital Storytelling. Gilead is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we seek to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world. Gilead’s therapeutic areas of focus include HIV/AIDS, liver diseases, cancer and inflammation, and serious respiratory and cardiovascular conditions.

This position is responsible for developing and delivering digital communication strategies that support Gilead’s brand and its business goals through building an online presence. Serves as a member of the Public Affairs leadership team, helping drive collaboration across all functional areas within department.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

Directs Gilead’s digital and social media strategy across the company’s corporate channels, including social media and external websites.

  • Advance the corporate story through the company’s digital platforms by developing and managing editorial plans to broaden awareness of Gilead, including drug discovery and development, worldwide access initiatives, community programs and general Gilead stories.
  • Oversee all corporate social media activities for the company.
  • Collaborates with Employee Communications to ensure consistent messaging across external and internal digital platforms.
  • Regularly update and maintain website content, usability and design, including updates via the company’s content management system.
  • Work with U.S. and global affiliates within the organization to research story ideas and develop compelling content across channels; create and maintain digital communications publishing calendar.
  • Oversee the digital media monitoring systems, including website and social media tracking and analytics reports, to inform digital communications strategy.
  • Facilitate setting up new channels as business needs arise.
  • Provide expertise in digital media management; stay updated on new online technologies, best practices and industry trends to identify innovative strategies and solutions.
  • Effectively manage relationships and budgets with agencies and vendors.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to provide counsel on digital communications strategies with confidence and ease.
  • Direct experience in project management/editorial oversight of multichannel communications, digital content management and website development.
  • A strong understanding of social media platforms and trends and a proven track record of scaling those platforms.
  • Knowledge of social media tools and content management systems, including social media publishing and listening tools.
  • Experience creating high-quality content for digital consumption, including writing for the website and social media, and editing and proofreading to ensure a high level of quality control.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience managing multiple projects (timelines, budgets, priorities) simultaneously; flexibility is essential. Demonstrated project and budget management capabilities.
  • Requires 10 years’ experience working in house or in an agency environment in areas of integrated communications, digital marketing and social media.
