EAT is an international non-profit linking food, health and environmental sustainability across science, business and policy. Launched five years ago, EAT is now an independent global foundation with three core partners: The Stordalen Foundation, the Stockholm Resilience Centre and the Wellcome Trust. The primary objectives of EAT are to expand scientific knowledge; spur innovation along the food value chain; and facilitate the development of evidence-based policies to radically transform the global food system to be able to deliver healthy, affordable diets to a growing world population. EAT believes that a transformation of the food system is only possible if multi-stakeholder, multidisciplinary and multi-scale collaboration between business, science, politics and civil society occurs. EAT hosts two flagship events for global leaders and influencers, nearly 700 of whom attended the annual EAT Stockholm Food Forum co-hosted by the Government of Sweden (the “Davos of Food”) in 2018 and the EAT Asia-Pacific Food Forum with the Government of Indonesia and attended by 800 leaders who gathered to shape the future of human and planetary health. The Director of Communications and Engagement is responsible for EAT’s global brand and communications strategic efforts to support the organization’s program and advocacy activities and strategic partnership engagements. The Communications and Engagement team leads EAT’s communications, earned media, marketing, digital and social media strategy and campaigns and manages EAT’s high profile events including the annual EAT Stockholm Food Forum and the biennial EAT Asia-Pacific Forum as well as smaller events year-round

This is a leadership position and works very closely with the executive team (reporting directly to the COO) to determine smart strategy to grow the organization beyond its currently significant profile. Global media familiarity and success are essential are as strong team management skills: the Director of Communications and Engagement manages two deputies and a team of 10. EAT is a fast-moving, world-class entrepreneurial organization looking for an ambitious and passionate leader who wants to play an active role in Food System Transformation.

The position is based at EAT’s headquarters in Oslo, Norway. EAT will cover full relocation costs.


  • Lead a team of five responsible for EAT’s communications activities
  • Develop and execute communications, marketing and brand awareness strategies to cultivate and enhance relationships with the media and key stakeholders/partners, and the general public.
  • Create messaging that conveys the mission, work and impact of the organization to external audiences.
  • Construct novel global partnerships in media, new media and social media.
  • Oversee and contribute to digital content (video, web, social media, podcasts) and implementation across all EAT platforms.
  • Manage and contribute to production of communication material (e.g. press releases, one-pagers, programs, annual report etc.)
  • Serve as a lead contact on proactive and reactive media opportunities.
  • Support communications needs of CEO and senior management
  • Handle crisis communications planning and implementation, reputation and issues management
  • Actively engage, cultivate, and manage media partnerships
  • Branding: ensure brand message is consistent, timely, and relevant
  • Source and manage the use of external resources (e.g. public relations firms, digital media experts, designers, etc.)
  • Determine success metrics and monitor, analyze and report successes to internal audiences, senior management, Board of Trustees, Advisory Board and external partners
  • Support partner team in communications work with EAT partners
  • Support senior management in the strategy development and planning process
  • Set, communicate and maintain project timelines and priorities
  • Overall budgetary responsibility for all communication activities


  • Lead and manage complete planning (including budget of >$1M USD), implementation and execution of annual and biannual EAT Food Forums attended by world leaders, influencers and media: the EAT Asia-Pacific Food Forum with the Government of Indonesia (attended by 800 participants in 2018) and the EAT Stockholm Food Forum co-hosted by the Government of Sweden (attended by nearly 700 participants in 2018).
  • Manage complete planning, implementation and execution of smaller engagement events with the United Nations, partner conferences, etc.
  • Lead a team of six responsible for EAT’s engagement activities, including speaking engagements for senior management, organization of workshops and roundtable discussions.Develop and manage positive relationships with key stakeholders including government, NGO and IGO representatives, private sector partners and academic institutions
  • Develop, operationalize and oversee implementation of an integrated awareness building strategy with partners and potential partners.
  • Communicate and collaborate with multiple strategic and operational stakeholders within EAT and across the EAT network
  • Support senior management in the strategy development and planning process
  • Overall budgetary responsibility for all engagement activities, including annual forum
  • Set, communicate and maintain project timelines and priorities
