Chaloner has partnered with AVROBIO, Inc., a leader in lentiviral-based gene therapies, on their search for a Director/Senior Director of Corporate Communications to be based out of their Cambridge, MA headquarters. They are a clinical-stage company developing disruptive therapies that have the potential to transform patients’ lives with a single dose. The Company is focused on the development of its gene therapy candidate, AVR RD 01, in Fabry disease, as well as additional gene therapy programs in other lysosomal storage disorders including Gaucher disease, cystinosis and Pompe disease. AVROBIO’s lentiviral platform has broad potential for other rare and non-rare genetic diseases. AVROBIO is headquartered in Cambridge, MA and has offices in Toronto, ON.

They are seeking a highly motivated, creative and professional corporate communications strategist and tactical leader to join their dynamic and fast-paced team. The Director/Senior Director of Corporate Communications reports to the Chief Business Officer and will have responsibility for the strategic and tactical leadership of all company communications, ensuring consistent messaging across all communications channels to all stakeholders, both internal and external. This role will be responsible for corporate communications including corporate visibility, media and public relations and social media; and will ensure alignment with corporate strategy. This role will contribute to both company and employer branding, and internal messaging strategy and execution. This individual will work closely and collaboratively with the Executive Team.

Corporate Communications Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction for all corporate communications and public relations
  • Partner with communications agency to achieve strategic communications goals
  • Create proactive external communications plan that will allow AVROBIO leadership to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level audiences, including the media and key community influencers
  • Develop and evolve the communication strategy to align with changes to the business
  • Serve as communications leader to guide the senior leadership team on external activities

News, Media and Public Relations

  • Assess Company, peer group, and industry factors to develop materials for press releases and special announcements, including key messages, presentations, Q&As and briefing information.
  • Develop the short and long-term corporate messaging aligned by stakeholder and channel
  • Collaborate with Investor Relations, Patient Advocacy and Scientific Communications, as other key areas that integrate on external communications strategies and tactics
  • Manage company’s media relations and social media programs
  • Plan, manage and attend appropriate external events including industry meetings, epitomize and reinforce AVROBIO’s corporate culture in all interactions
  • Anticipate, prepare for and collaborate to solve issues with proactive issues management

Internal Communications

  • Internal messaging strategy and execution of employee communications
  • Contribute to employer branding for recruitment purposes
  • Play key role in developing content for employee meetings

Corporate Branding

  • Collaborate and coordinate with other functional areas to develop messaging that authentically promotes the Company
  • Manage, update and enhance company website
  • Manage and update the corporate presentations, as a key branding tool

Experience/ Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience with at least 7 years’ experience leading Corporate Communications at a public biopharma company
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Rare disease experience is preferred
  • Proven track record delivering clear consistent messaging of scientific and clinical concepts across multiple stakeholders / audiences
  • Familiarity with media, biopharma journalists
  • Recognized by former peers, colleagues, managers and direct reports for attributes congruent with AVROBIO values
  • Experience setting and managing budgets
  • Experience managing external resources
