Job Purpose and Background

CDP is looking for a full-time Senior Communications Manager to be based in our New York office, reporting to the COO of CDP North America and Global Communications and Marketing Director based in London.

This is a unique opportunity to make your mark in a dynamic business-facing organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing and leading the media and communications strategy of CDP North America and play an integral role within our global communications team, which is responsible for CDP’s external global communications and marketing. We are looking for a results-oriented self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a wider global team.

The successful candidate will spearhead an integrated multi-channel communications strategy and plan for North America, in line with CDP’s global strategic plan and our audience needs.

Key responsibilities include:

Communications strategy:

  • Lead, develop and implement an integrated multi-channel communications strategy and plan for North America, in line with CDP’s global strategic plan and global communications strategy
  • Communicate CDP’s brand and strategic positioning to key stakeholders in North America, ensuring that external communications meet the needs of US target audiences
  • Coordinate communications monitoring, analysis and reporting to stakeholders, both internally and externally, working alongside the CDP global communications team
  • Coordinate communications globally between team leads and operational staff in North America, other international CDP offices and external parties
  • Provide advice to teams on marketing and communications outreach
  • Support CDP’s global communications team on stakeholder research

Media outreach:

  • Develop, manage and implement a North America plan to maximize CDP’s media coverage through compelling news stories and thought leadership, working closely with the global communications team
  • Conduct proactive media outreach and cultivate a network of journalists and editors in major media outlets in North America (broadcast, print, web and social media) to ensure widespread coverage of CDP’s work, including data, insights, reports, events, public announcements, and other projects
  • Draft press releases, media advisories, Q&A, talking points, statements and other communications materials as required
  • Develop profiling opportunities for senior spokespeople, arrange media events and individual meetings for CDP North America’s President and key personnel
  • Identify and act upon media opportunities to maximize coverage of CDP, manage incoming media inquiries and coordinate appropriately

Content development:

  • Develop creative content in line with our content strategy and plan, for media articles, blogs, social media, marketing collateral, etc, working closely with the global content team
  • Work closely with the global digital team to maximise the effectiveness of key digital channels
  • Engage target audiences and raise CDP’s profile via our digital (including social media) and offline channels
  • Build relationships and manage global coordination with CDP offices and external partners
  • Champion CDP’s brand and strategic market positioning to key stakeholders
  • Ensure CDP’s external communications meets the needs of our target audiences
  • The precise description and nature of your job may be varied from time to time, and you may be required to carry out other duties as necessary to meet business needs. Direct reports to be confirmed, subject to recruitment

Required skills and experience:

  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in communications, PR or journalism
  • Strong analytical mind with the ability to turn complex information into compelling stories and content
  • Extensive experience in promoting content on a wide range of digital and traditional platforms
  • Strong copy-writing and editing skills
  • Solid and demonstrable experience and interest in social media
  • Demonstrable knowledge of US and international media, including business, trade and environment media
  • Lots of creative ideas for impactful communications in a complex and competitive global media landscape
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and nurture relationships both internally and externally, including complex multi-stakeholder relationships
  • An understanding of and desire to work proactively to promote corporate sustainability
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Good MS Office software skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Fluency in other languages is welcome but not essential

This is a full time role based in our NY office.
