Chaloner is partnering with West End Strategy Team on a search for a Vice President for the New York City office. We are seeking an experienced communications professional with solid agency experience and a strong track record of exemplary client service. The right candidate will have strong management skills and a strategic mind that understands the modern media landscape. These skills will be used to advance a positive progressive agenda on social justice issues including immigration, human rights, LGBT equality, peace in the Middle East, and interfaith cooperation and others.

Candidates must have worked at a communications firm in their career. Ideal candidates may also have experience from Capitol Hill, state government, journalism, the non-profit world and business.

Responsibilities

  • Serve on the firm’s senior leadership team and manage the small but mighty NYC office.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients with day-to-day oversight of client teams.
  • Provide exemplary counsel and serve as point of contact with the media on behalf of clients.
  • Develop and write communications strategies for clients.
  • Write materials to support client communications goals including press releases, media advisories, op-eds, and talking points.
  • Create and implement media outreach strategies including building press lists and reaching out to reporters.
  • Build marketing campaigns using social media, advertising, and other tools to advance client goals.
  • Manage and mentor junior staff.
  • Identify opportunities to grow existing business.
  • Cultivate a network that enables opportunities to pitch new business. Lead the pitch process.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of ten years of professional experience in the area of communications with an agency strongly desired and/or non-profit and/or a government setting or political campaign.
  • Management experience at an agency, and large-scale campaign experience required.
  • Strong project management experience and proven ability to manage multiple clients at one time.
  • Stellar reputation as a people and team manager. Able to teach, guide, mentor and bring staff along within the agency and their career.
  • Provide strategic counsel to clients on long-term plans and short-term needs including rapid response.
  • Experience leading and managing the business development process from cold and warm lead generation.
  • An understanding to of how to use earned media, paid media, social media and owned media to advance a client’s goal.
  • A strategic thinker capable of seeing and developing opportunities for clients that they may not see for themselves.
  • Established contacts with the national media.
  • Sharp, strong writing skills.
  • Creative thinking and a good sense of humor.
