FAQs

Why is the firm called Chaloner?

Chaloner is named after our founder, Ted Chaloner, who had a passion for mission-driven organizations and giving back to communities. Like Ted, we’re focused on people and progress — and we’re proud to continue the legacy he built. Learn more about Ted here.

What makes your search firm "mission-driven"?

We partner exclusively with organizations that have a clear social or environmental purpose. Our goal is to connect these organizations with top talent who are deeply aligned with their mission — building strong, mission-centered teams that help our clients amplify their impact.

I heard Chaloner has expanded their capabilities.  What does that mean?

While our history was in communications, today, we conduct searches for roles at all levels — including program, development, communications, strategic partnerships and initiatives, government affairs, advocacy, human resources, mobility and inclusion, and C-suite.

How is your recruitment process different from a traditional firm?

Our process goes beyond assessing standard qualifications. While we meticulously vet for skills and experience, we also focus on a candidate's passion for the organization’s mission. We conduct in-depth interviews to understand a candidate's values, motivations, and long-term goals to ensure a strong cultural fit — a process that leads to more successful placements and higher employee retention.

What types of organizations do you work with?

We partner with a wide range of mission-driven organizations including non-profits, social enterprises, B-Corps, and purpose-driven for-profits. Our focus is on impact, not just a specific sector — so whether you’re focused on environmental conservation, public health, education reform, social justice, or sustainable technology, we’re excited to help you achieve your goals.

I don’t have a job description. Can you help me develop one?

Absolutely! That’s part of the process we offer to our clients. Click here to learn more about our search process.

I don’t have a department plan. Can you help me put one together?

We can! Contact us to see the details of our Advisory Services.

What is a typical timeline that I can expect before filling an open opportunity on our team?

At Chaloner, we have had a number of searches close in as little as 45 days — well below the 90-day industry average for a leadership level search. We pride ourselves on running a highly-effective process with consistent momentum and delivering the right result.

How does Chaloner use AI?

We’re happy to engage cutting-edge technology to support our work — and that’s why we use AI for administrative tasks like note-taking, so our recruiters can give candidates their full attention. But when it comes to vetting and selecting a candidate, our process relies on our team’s human ingenuity and rigorous commitment.

What does it mean to be a "mission-driven" candidate?

A mission-driven candidate is someone who is not only looking for a job but is also seeking to make a meaningful impact through their work. They are passionate about a specific cause or purpose and want their professional life to align with their personal values. When we evaluate candidates, we look for this deep-seated commitment in addition to their skills and experience.

I’ve never worked with a recruiter before. What is the typical process for a candidate?

Our process is simple and transparent. First, you can submit your resume and a cover letter explaining your mission. We review all submissions and may invite you for an initial screening call to discuss your career goals and values. If you are a match for an open role, we’ll guide you through the interview process, provide feedback, and serve as a liaison between you and the organization.

I don't have direct experience in a non-profit. Can I still work with you?

Absolutely. We believe that talent and passion are transferable. Many of our most successful placements come from the private sector, bringing valuable skills like business development, marketing, or technology to the mission-driven world. Your willingness to align with a cause is often more important than a specific background. We encourage you to apply and tell us what drives you.

How can I share my resume? If I submit a resume, will you call me?

Click View Open Roles to see a list of our current open positions. If you would like to submit a resume for future consideration, go to the Join Our Network link to submit your resume into our database. We will contact you if any role fits your experience.

What if I don’t see a relevant role in your active jobs?

Go to Submit Your Resume to submit your resume into our database. We will contact you if any of our current or future roles fit your background.

Do you charge candidates a fee?

No, our services are completely free for candidates. Our business model is based on fees paid by our client organizations for finding them the best talent. We are here to support your job search and help you find a purpose-filled career without any financial obligation to you.
